5 Counseling Tips To Help You Through The Day
Meditate or take some quiet time by yourself regularly, everyday if possible.
If you don’t meditate, you might try sitting with a cup of tea for 5- 10 minutes as you look out the window. See what it’s like to be quiet without doing anything else.
Sing-every day if you can-or do some other creative expression like writing, drawing, playing an instrument or dancing.
I especially suggest singing, since it opens up the throat, tunes you to a vibration of well-being and is easily done without preparation. Even if you feel silly doing it, try it anyway! There are many studies on how music can powerfully affect our level of well-being.
If singing doesn’t come easily to you, listening to music has also been shown to have a positive effect.
Listen to music that uplifts your spirit. I’ve made compilation of songs that I often sing along with. You might try that.
Move your body: walking, exercise, yoga, etc. regularly-three times a week or more, if possible.
I strongly recommend developing a healthy relationship with your body while you’re doing the course, and then continuing it for the rest of your life.
Do something nourishing for yourself regularly-three or four times a week, daily if possible-no judgments if less.
Use a journal. Write about what brings you more joy/well-being/happiness each day. M. J. Ryan, author of “The Happiness Makeover” suggests answering the following three questions at the end of every day. You might use your journal for doing this.
- What am I grateful for today?
- What did I enjoy today?
- When did I feel satisfied? (feel a sense of completion)
